Who is this phone for?
The T54W is the right phone when at least one of two things is true: you need to place the phone without a cabled network connection, or your staff use a Bluetooth headset and you want it to connect directly to the phone without a USB dongle.
Buy it for: executive desks in older offices where cabling is impractical, meeting rooms, flexible work areas, and any desk where a Bluetooth headset is the preferred handsfree device. Also appropriate as a primary phone for power users who want the best desk phone in the standard Yealink T-series range.
Step down to the T46U if you have a cabled network connection and don't need Bluetooth headset support. The T46U is functionally similar (same screen size, same DSS key count) but costs less. The T54W's premium over the T46U is justified only when the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth capability is actually used.

Build quality and design
The T54W shares the same physical form factor as the T46U, with the addition of the built-in wireless antenna. The body is slightly heavier than the T46U. The 4.3-inch colour touch screen responds well to touch input, though most users will still primarily navigate using the hardware keys below the screen.
Build quality is consistent with the rest of the Yealink T5 series. The phone feels more substantial than the T4 range and the screen clarity is noticeably better than the T33G or T43U. The tiltable stand has two positions. LED indicators on the DSS keys are clear and visible in normal office lighting.
Call quality on Australian NBN
When connected via Wi-Fi, call quality on the T54W is dependent on your Wi-Fi environment. On a well-configured 5GHz network with adequate signal strength and QoS enabled, Wi-Fi call quality is indistinguishable from a cabled connection. On 2.4GHz or in environments with high Wi-Fi congestion, you may notice occasional jitter during calls. For critical call-handling desks, a cabled connection is always preferable even when Wi-Fi is available.
When cabled, the T54W performs identically to the T46U. G.722 HD audio and OPUS are both supported, and SIP ALG on the router should be disabled regardless of whether you're using Wi-Fi or a cabled connection.
Bluetooth audio for headsets works well for general call handling. For environments where call recording quality matters, some organisations prefer wired headsets or USB headsets for more consistent audio capture.
Features
The T54W's distinguishing features beyond the T46U:
Built-in dual-band Wi-Fi. Eliminates the WF50 USB Wi-Fi dongle required on other Yealink phones. Supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands (802.11a/b/g/n/ac). The 5GHz band is the better choice in congested office Wi-Fi environments.
Built-in Bluetooth 4.2. Eliminates the DD10K Bluetooth dongle required on the T43U. Connect Bluetooth headsets, sync contacts from a mobile phone, or use the phone as a BT speakerphone extension. No additional hardware required.
4.3" colour touch screen. The touch interface allows swipe navigation and on-screen dialling without pressing hardware keys. Practical for executives who prefer touch interaction.
27 programmable DSS keys. Same as T46U. EXP50 expansion module support is also included, allowing additional BLF keys for reception or team lead use cases.
Dual USB-A ports. USB headsets and recording devices are supported. Combined with built-in Bluetooth, this gives the T54W the most headset connectivity options of any Yealink desk phone in the T-series.
What works / What doesn't
Pros
Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth -- no dongles needed, works out of the box
4.3" colour touch screen -- the best display in the standard T-series range
16 SIP lines + 27 DSS keys -- covers any AU business deployment
Most headset connectivity options of any Yealink T-series phone
EXP50 expansion module supported for reception/team lead use
Cons
Price premium over T46U is only justified if Wi-Fi or Bluetooth is actually used
Wi-Fi call quality is environment-dependent -- 5GHz preferred, 2.4GHz can be inconsistent
Larger desk footprint than T33G or T43U
Touch screen is convenient but most users still primarily use hardware keys
Australian pricing and where to buy
The T54W is stocked by most AU IT retailers including Mwave, Scorptec, UMart, and Computer Alliance. Single-unit pricing typically sits around $289-$349 AUD. Prices on this page are updated nightly via StaticICE.
Note that StaticICE may occasionally return old clearance listings from I-Tech or similar retailers at unusually low prices. These are typically old stock or discontinued configurations. Current in-stock pricing from the main AU retailers is the reliable reference point.
The T54W is also available on Amazon AU. For single-unit purchases with fast delivery, Amazon is a convenient option.
The T54W is the right phone when built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth is a genuine requirement. If you need to place a phone without a cable run, or your staff use Bluetooth headsets and you want them to pair directly to the phone without a dongle, buy the T54W over the T46U.
If neither of those applies, save the money and buy the T46U instead. The screens and DSS key counts are identical, and on a cabled connection they perform the same. The T54W's premium is for the wireless capabilities, not for anything else.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Yealink T54W connect to Wi-Fi without a dongle?
Yes. The T54W has built-in dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz + 5GHz). No WF50 Wi-Fi dongle is required. This is the main hardware difference from the T46U, which requires the WF50 USB dongle for Wi-Fi connectivity.
Does the T54W work on NBN in Australia?
Yes. The T54W is a SIP phone compatible with all NBN connection types and all major AU SIP providers. When using Wi-Fi, use the 5GHz band if available for best call quality. Disable SIP ALG on your router and enable QoS for voice traffic.
T54W vs T46U -- which should I buy?
Buy the T54W if you need to place the phone without a cabled network connection, or if you use a Bluetooth headset and want it to connect directly to the phone without a dongle. Buy the T46U if you have a cabled network connection and don't need Bluetooth -- it is functionally the same for cabled use at a lower price.
Can I connect a Bluetooth headset to the Yealink T54W?
Yes. The T54W has built-in Bluetooth 4.2. Compatible Bluetooth headsets (Plantronics/Poly, Jabra, and others) pair directly with the phone. No USB dongle is required. Check Yealink's headset compatibility list for verified models.
Does the T54W support expansion modules?
Yes. The T54W supports the Yealink EXP50 expansion module, adding up to 20 additional programmable BLF/speed dial keys per module. Up to 2 modules can be connected, giving a total of 67 programmable keys for reception or team lead deployments.
