Yealink T31P Review — Australia 2026

The T31P is the most-bought entry desk phone in Australia for a reason. It works with any SIP provider, survives NBN, and costs under $100. For a single-line reception desk or a small office that just needs calls to work, nothing beats it at the price.

Who is this phone for?

The T31P is the right phone if you need a basic, reliable desk phone that will work with any SIP-based phone system in Australia. It covers two SIP accounts, handles concurrent calls, and does everything a standard office desk phone is supposed to do. If your staff answer calls, transfer them, and put them on hold, the T31P handles all of it without complaint. Buy it for: reception desks, break rooms, secondary desks, single-staff offices, and any location where the phone is used but not relied on for complex call handling. Avoid it if your staff regularly make back-to-back calls across multiple lines, manage queues, or need a colour screen for busy lamp field (BLF) visibility. For those use cases, the T33G or T43U is the right choice.

Build quality and design

The T31P is a compact, straightforward desk phone. The body is all plastic, which is standard at this price point, and Yealink's build quality is consistent enough that you can expect years of daily use without issues. The keypad has good tactile feedback, the handset is comfortable, and the speaker is adequate for handsfree calls in a quiet office. The tiltable stand has two positions. It is not the most refined-looking phone but it is inoffensive on any desk. The mono LCD is functional, not attractive. You will see caller ID, call status, and time clearly. You will not miss a colour screen unless you have been using one.

Call quality on Australian NBN

The T31P supports G.722 (wideband HD audio) which is the codec that makes a noticeable difference to call clarity on modern SIP systems. On a well-configured NBN FTTC or FTTN connection with QoS enabled, calls sound significantly better than a standard PSTN landline. On NBN HFC, performance is similar provided QoS is set up and SIP ALG is disabled on your router. If your NBN connection has jitter or packet loss issues (common with some FTTN connections running at lower sync speeds), the T31P will handle it with the same resilience as any Yealink phone. The RTCP statistics accessible via the phone's web interface let you spot jitter or packet loss problems during calls, which is useful for diagnosing NBN quality issues. Key setup note: Disable SIP ALG on your router before provisioning any Yealink phone. SIP ALG interferes with SIP registration on most consumer NBN routers including Telstra Gateway modems, TP-Link, and ASUS units. This is the single most common cause of registration failures and one-way audio on AU deployments.

Features

The T31P keeps things simple, which is appropriate for an entry phone. Key features worth noting:
  • Two line keys. Handles two simultaneous calls, with a clear visual indicator for each. Sufficient for most single-user desks.
  • Full-duplex speakerphone. Usable for small group conversations but not designed for conference rooms. For conference calls, look at the Yealink CP925 instead.
  • Auto provisioning. Yealink's RPS (Redirection and Provisioning Service) is supported, which means most managed SIP providers including Maxotel can auto-configure the phone when it connects to the network. Manual provisioning via the web interface is also straightforward.
  • Dual Ethernet ports. Lets you daisy-chain a PC through the phone rather than running a separate cable. Useful in offices with limited cabling.
  • SRTP and TLS. Call encryption and signalling security are included. Important if your team handles sensitive conversations.

What works / What doesn't

Pros

  • Best value under-$100 SIP phone in AU. Consistent retailer availability
  • Reliable NBN performance with G.722 HD audio support
  • Auto provisioning works with all major AU SIP providers
  • PoE means no power adapter needed if you have a PoE switch
  • Simple setup. Most staff can operate it without training

Cons

  • Mono screen only. No colour BLF visibility
  • 2-line limit means it is not suited to high-call-volume desks
  • No Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Requires a cabled network connection
  • 100Mbps Ethernet, not Gigabit. Minor limitation for PC passthrough use
  • RJ9 headset port only. Not compatible with newer USB headsets

Australian pricing and where to buy

The T31P is well-stocked across AU retailers including Mwave, UMart, Scorptec, Computer Alliance, and MSY. Pricing at AU retailers typically sits around $79-$99 AUD depending on the retailer and whether you're buying a single unit or in bulk. Prices update nightly from StaticICE. The price shown on this page reflects the current best AU retail price. It is also available on Amazon AU for convenience purchases, particularly if you need same-day or next-day delivery through Prime. Check both. Retailer pricing is often lower for single units, and significantly lower for multi-unit orders. Bulk pricing: most AU resellers will discount further for orders of 5+ units. Contact the retailer directly or ask your SIP provider about bundled handset pricing.

Pairing the T31P with a Maxotel plan? Maxotel supports zero-touch provisioning for all Yealink phones.

Verdict

The T31P does exactly what a basic AU office desk phone should do, at the best price available. If your use case is straightforward, you don't need BLF keys, and you're not running a call-heavy desk, this is the right buy. Spend $30-$40 more and get the T33G if your staff are on the phone regularly and would benefit from a colour screen and 4-line support. Spend $100 more and get the T43U if you need USB headset compatibility or Bluetooth support. The T31P is the floor of the Yealink range and it is a solid floor.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Yealink T31P work with NBN in Australia?
Yes. The T31P is a SIP phone that works over any internet connection including NBN FTTP, FTTC, FTTN, and HFC. You will need a SIP provider (such as Maxotel, Vonex, or MyNetFone) and a VoIP-capable router with SIP ALG disabled. The T31P supports G.722 HD audio which delivers noticeably better call quality than older PSTN lines.
What is the difference between the Yealink T31 and T31P?
The T31P adds Power over Ethernet (PoE) support. The T31 requires a separate power adapter. If your network switch supports PoE (802.3af), the T31P is the better choice because it eliminates the power adapter clutter. If you have no PoE switch, the T31 costs slightly less and uses a power adapter instead.
Is the Yealink T31P compatible with Maxotel?
Yes. Maxotel supports auto-provisioning for Yealink phones via Yealink's RPS service. Once you register the MAC address of the T31P with your Maxotel account, the phone configures itself automatically when it connects to the internet. No manual SIP credentials entry is required.
Should I buy the T31P or the T33G?
If your staff make and receive calls regularly throughout the day, the T33G is worth the $30-$40 premium for the colour screen and 4-line support. The T31P is the right call for secondary desks, break rooms, or locations where the phone is used infrequently. If in doubt, buy the T33G.
Can I use a Bluetooth or USB headset with the T31P?
The T31P has an RJ9 analogue headset port only. It does not support USB headsets or Bluetooth natively. If you need Bluetooth headset support, the T43U (with the optional DD10K Bluetooth dongle) or the T54W (built-in Bluetooth) are the right choices.
Where can I buy the Yealink T31P in Australia?
The T31P is widely available from AU retailers including Mwave, UMart, Scorptec, MSY, Computer Alliance, and MegaBuy. It is also available on Amazon AU. Prices and stock levels vary, so check StaticICE for a current comparison across all AU retailers.
